Hello Liholiho Ohana!

Just passing along information here about a Lego® event / Summer Reading Program. This is from Play-Well TEKnologies:

We wanted to invite you and Liholiho Elementary families to a FREE event where we will be building Honolulu out of 20,000 LEGO® Bricks. The event is being held on Saturday, June 3rd from 10 AM — 1 PM at the Hawaii State Public Library. It is part of the kick-off to the Hawaii State Public Library’s Summer Reading Program. Families will get the opportunity to build the City of Honolulu as they would like to see it.

Here is the link for the event:

Feel free to share this with anyone that you think would be interested. We are encouraging families to register at the link above, so we can ensure we have enough LEGO for everyone. Hope you can make it.

As we close out the school year, we would like to say thank you to families and friends for supporting the PTA! We appreciate your help with events such as the Fun Fair and Walk-a-thon. Your generous donations helped pay for things such as the sound system for the cafeteria, a part-time teacher, and curriculum for the students.

Thank you also to teachers and staff for teaching our kids, supporting them, and making them grow into respectful, responsible and safe individuals!

At this time we would also like to thank outgoing PTA board members:
Lawrence So
Staci Yoshihara
Danica Wong
Vince Soliven
Shaleah Soliven
Sachi Matsushita
Chris Leong
Alicia Chang

Thank you very much for your service! A special thank you to Lawrence and Staci. Lawrence has served on the board for 7 years, including successfully chairing 2 of our most recent Fun Fairs. Staci has been on the board for 5 years. She and her family have generously given their time and resources to benefit our school. We will surely miss them and wish their kids best of luck as they graduate 5th grade and start the next chapter of their education!

Thank you to PTA board members who are ending their current term but are volunteering for a new term in a different role!

And welcome new PTA board members Donica Kaneshiro, Wai Kee Chan, and Mei Chun, who will be teaming up on Fundraising. Aletha Sutton will be the new Hospitality chair. Looking forward to a fun year ahead!

(If anyone would like to help with future PTA events, please look out for flyers/emails in the upcoming school year!)

Have a wonderful and safe summer everyone!

Yesterday, an event was held to thank teachers, staff and volunteers for their hard work and dedication throughout the year.

Makua Manu led grades 3 and 4 in a Hawaiian chant, and also led lower grade levels in a “Liholiho Sings to You” performance. Grade 5 gave a preview of their graduation song along with Mr Magnenat and a student band.

Teachers, staff and volunteers were treated to lunch and ice cream.

Click below to see pictures and videos from the event. (Note: The video at the end is of a Kindergarten student (Enzo) showing off his impressive dance moves (along with some 5th grade backup dancers)! The video didn’t pick up the song very well, so just imagine Bruno Mars’ “24K Magic” playing in the background!)

Hello Liholiho Ohana,

As the school year comes to an end, some of you may be thinking about giving something to your child’s teacher and/or staff. Please remember, it is not necessary and by no means do any of the employees expect gifts from the students and families who attend Liholiho. However, if you feel compelled to give something to your child’s teacher and/or staff member, please remember the following State Ethics Commission’s gift guidelines:

1. The state’s gift guidelines provide that the following are acceptable (These guidelines may not apply for employees whose official duties include procurement):

Gifts of Aloha” — modest gifts of nominal value traditionally given as part of Hawaiian culture as a gesture of aloha or goodwill such as a flower lei or a box of cookies to share with the office — and other gifts of nominal value such as small promotional business items (e.g. pens with company logo).

Meals and “Food and Drink” types of events valued at under $25. This limit applies to the whole event.

What does this means is? Please keep your gift value under $25.

Thank you!
