Successful ‘Aina in the Schools Event!

Over a hundred school and community volunteers came down yesterday to participate in our very first Liholiho ‘Aina Garden Party! Liholiho community contributors worked interdependently to build six 4′ x 12’ raised garden beds, a green compost structure, and painted beautiful signs to label garden beds for each grade level. Altogether, we moved 7,900 pounds of soil! Now we are ready to start planting!

Special thanks to community volunteers from Kokua Hawaii Foundation, Hands in Helping Out (HiHO), 12th Ave. Grill, Hula Grill Waikiki, and UH Manoa Master Gardeners Program who took time out of their three-day weekend to help with Liholiho’s garden program.

ATTENTION: If you are interested in volunteering with our ‘Aina in Schools program to teach and inspire environmental stewardship or childhood nutrition please contact Ms. Shimizu, ‘Aina Team Coordinator, in the Contact Us page using the subject line “Aina in the Schools”.
